23 Aug Webinar: Ramanujan’s Tau Function and Modular Forms by Prof. Sujatha Ramdorai (University of British Columbia, Canada)
Gonit Sora is organizing a webinar on number theory to be delivered by Prof. Sujatha Ramdorai of the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. The details are given below.
Date: 28 August 2020 (Friday)
Time: 9 am IST
Title: Ramanujan’s Tau function and Modular forms
Abstract: The Tau function on natural numbers was studied by Ramanujan and has connections to hypergeometric series and modular forms. It has led to some deep conjectures in Arithmetic. This talk will expound on these connections and conjectures.
About the Speaker: Prof. Sujatha Ramdorai holds a Canada Research Chair in the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. Before moving to Canada, she was a professor at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) Mumbai. She is the first Indian to win the prestigious ICTP Ramanujan Prize in 2006. She was also awarded the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award, the highest honour in scientific fields by the Indian Government in 2004. She is also the recipient of the 2020 Krieger-Nelson Prize for her exceptional contributions to mathematics research. Her research is in algebraic number theory, in particular she has made seminal contributions to Iwasawa theory.
The talk will be suitable for a general audience (college students are specially welcome), and will be held online via Zoom. It will also be livestreamed on our Facebook page.
e-Certificates will be issued to registered participants who attend the talk on Zoom.
